Friday night on a whim hubby and I decided to head out Saturday morning to see the Southern Living Idea House located in the quaint town of Senoia, Georgia. After seeing some of Rhoda’s photos, I couldn’t wait to go. I called her just as we got off the interstate to see if we were on the right road but we had to cut our conversation short as hubby took a wrong turn twice and he needed me to help him find where we needed to turn. We also decided that since we were only about an hour away from Atlanta, we’d run over to Ikea to check out the Ektorp sofa before we pull the trigger and buy it….after hubby measured it for length and comfort, we have definitely decided to buy it….I will be advertising and selling my old sofa next week.
Seeing the Southern Living home was quite an experience. I don’t think I’ve ever seen anything quite like it….walking in the front door and seeing the family room/kitchen took my breath away! Let me share in pictures….

Big old timey swing on the front porch, just add a glass of sweet ice tea and you’re all set for a lazy summer afternoon

Now looking back to the back door….my grandparents home in Lowndes County had a long hallway area just like this…in fact it was so long and wide that in the hot summer months it was used as the “summer porch” and we practically lived there because it was a lot cooler

This area was staged in the hallway which is directly underneath the stairs leading to the 2nd floor

Loved all these silver cups/trophies

Hall bathroom….I was so excited to see a bathroom done in dark gray as that it what I’m going to use in hubby’s bathroom

That concludes the downstairs tour…next time I’ll share the upstairs rooms and the outside….you don’t want to miss it!
After leaving the Southern Living home we headed to Ikea….one thing I learned is I’ll never go to Ikea in Atlanta on a Saturday again! Can you say traffic?!?!? I’m hyperventilating on the floor and hubby is asking me what’s wrong? Seriously? Anyway, once we got there it was well worth it….wait ‘til you see what I got!
Don’t forget to look for part 2 of the Southern Living Idea Home I’ll be sharing next week!
